Sermon Diagnostic

1. 25 times
2. makes holy, slain (2x), is lamb, died, took sin, who slain, set apart (2x), lives again, rose, make pure, lamb slain, given you, reigns (2x), lives for you, will live
3. Rev. Borghardt in his sermon is telling the people that God is a merciful God. He says that we are all saved through Christ's death and resurrection, and in him we receive eternal life. Rev. Borghardt says that Heaven is something to fear but something to look forward to. In contrast Edward's sermon is telling people to fear God and his wrath. That we are all damned sinners and are all going to hell. He says that we should all live in fear, unlike Borghardt who says to eagerly await Heaven which is given by God's unconditional love and mercy.

  1. I agree with what you said in this post. Borghardt's sermon was deffinately very positive. I also like how you talked about specific things in Edwards' sermon like "we are all damned sinners."

  2. Lauren,
I like the last sentence of your blog post. "He says that we should all live in fear, unlike Borghardt who says to eagerly await Heaven which is given by God's unconditional love and mercy." You referenced what each person was talking about but you also show how they are related. You bring them together under the diagnostic but still show the differences.

  3. I liked your comment about Heaven being a place we should fear but also something we should look forward to because it's okay to be nervous but we should be confident on where we're going

  4. I thought you did a good job contrasting the two sermons. It is easy to see the main points of the two men. Borghardt talks about how we look forward to heaven which is given by God's undonditional love and mercy. I like how you used unconditional to show we don't have to do anything. Edward's point is to tell people they should fear God's wrath.

  5. I liked how you divided your response just focusing first on Borghardt and then just focus on Edward's sermon. Your final sentence then nicely ties together their contrast.

  6. I like how you brought Borghardt back into the second part of the paragraph, "He says that we should all live in fear, unlike Borghardt who says to eagerly await Heaven". It connects the two sermons at the end.
